Colorado vacation post #6
Wed afternoon the girls sat in the prince and princess chair and worked on writing some postcards to their friends (which, incidentally, I still can't find--the postcards, not the friends).

Thursday morning we packed up and left thinking we would stop by Great Harvest in Colorado Springs for scones for breakfast. After all, they had lemon poppy seed scones that day and they would be delicious. Plus we could eat them in the van (I had brought along some Tupperware containers that the kids used as trays) and there wouldn't be any breakfast dishes to do before we left the cabin in Divide.
No such luck!! The Great Harvests (there are 2) in Colorado Springs are horrible. We had stopped there the first day on the way to Divide to pick up a few loaves of bread for the week. Well, they were out. That day their mixer had broken and they only had a few loaves left. So the next day we were back in Colorado Springs and we stopped by again thinking that since the mixer was now fixed, they should have plenty of bread. Nope. It was 4:30 and they were out of bread. I told the guy I thought it was pathetic that they were out of bread and he disagreed saying he thought it was good because that meant they had good business.
So on the way out of town we called Great Harvest to reserve 6 scones for our family. It was a little before 8:30 and already they only had 3 scones left!!! Don't these people plan? Do they really like to be empty so soon? It made me very thankful for our Great Harvest here as they always have bread and don't run out of scones until mid-afternoon. I intend to send them a note thanking them for all the bread they make.
After we left Colorado Springs we drove to Denver and went to Colorado Mills, a large shopping center with a Children's Place Outlet. We try to hit this store any time we are near one since they always have great deals and our children are mostly clothed from there. They are, after all, one of the few stores anymore that have modest clothing. We scored big there and came home with 2 large bags filled for a fraction of the original price. After shopping there we stopped at Johnny Rockets for lunch and received terrible service for an overpriced meal which didn't even come all at once since the waitress forgot about part of our order. It didn't help that Darin and Natalie weren't exactly model children.
Once we were done there we drove onto Estes Park where we were having a family reunion. We checked into our cabin there and wished that we had one as large as our previous cabin. The one in Estes Park had 1 bedroom with a loft. That doesn't sound so bad but the loft is quite small. It holds 4 twin mattresses on the floor and you can't stand up. I think every one of us hit our heads on the ceiling at least once. But it was better than the studio cabins.
